Designer of the Moment: Marchesa

We used to call Monique Llhullier our favorite designer. She spoke to us with her girly shapes and adornment. And her figure flattering silhouettes looked equally fantastic on all frames (see: America Ferrera). But now a new design queen has stolen our heart. Marchesa is the new Monique. With designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig behind the wheel, Marchesa too has classic shapes that we never tire of (though they show up every season). Her gowns are also beloved by celebrities, and fit for all age ranges. There's really no difference between the two. Only that Marchesa is extremely hot right now. However, fashion goes in waves, and soon it will be Moniques turn again.

CFDA Award Winners Plus Best and Worst Dress

Womenswear Designer of the Year: Rodarte's Laura and Kate Mulleavy
Menswear Designer of the Year (tie): Calvin Klein's Italo Zucchelli and Band of Outsiders' Scott Sternberg
Accessory Designer of the Year: Proenza Schouler's Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez
Swarovski Award for Womenswear: Alexander Wang
Swarovski Award for Menswear: Tim Hamilton
Swarovski Award for Accessory Design: Justin Giunta for Subversive Jewelry
International Award: Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton
Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award: Anna Sui

There was also a Board of Director's Special Tribute to First Lady Michelle Obama.

The CFDA Awards are no doubt the Oscars of the fashion world, and when there's a red carpet there's bound to be hits and misses. Obviously, this isn't like any other red carpet. Designers bring out the best of the best, yet still manage somehow to get it wrong.

Even still, we love it all the same. The Spring 2009 runways were filled with them, and this one from Ralph Lauren caught our eye immediately. It's sleek and sexy. Perfect for a night on the town.
